Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants

Digital Immigrants

  • Digital immigrants are people who didn't have technology back in the early years.
  •  The technology immigrants are now learning about the technologies.
  • They were not taught with technology.
  • They recognize the importance of the technology and show interest of learning this and will help teach the subject matter to their students.

My view on this is pretty well where I am at the moment. I never knew how to use a cell phone till I was in my mid 30's. To use the computer is very challenging for me, but with practice I know that I can master this in no time. I watch my younger neice use the X-box, digital cameras, ipod, iphone and I just look at her in disbelief. She tried to teach me this one day and I was so frustrated. I am still trying to learn from my sister when she gives me the opportunity to try her iphone or blackberry. I was taught from a technology immigrant.

Digital Natives

  • People are into Blackberry, Ipods, Iphones, computers.
  • They can get ahold of each other in no time flat.
  • These days they can reach people from afar or make appointments just like that.
  • People who know how to master in todays technology

My view on this is that I hope to become a wiz at one if not all of these electronics. I am pretty sure by the time I finally figure these out that there will be another item that is more efficient. As a carpenter it would be nice to learn all of these before I teach the students. This one day I was shocked that people can do on line banking. I tried that not too long ago and I was amazed. Now that's what you call a digital native. How funny is that?
